It's really up to you, if you want the entire ilife suite to be separate, rename the whole thing, if the rest of the apps don't matter, and you just want the gb program to be saved, then just rename that one. I generally rename/move programs to other names/places before installing updates of them, because as we've seen on other oses, and programs (dare I say aol messenger) sometimes, upgrades remove functionality, and I'm not keen to loose accessibility or features just because someone decided we don't need that feature (heck, I still have a copy of tiger installed on my mini alongside leopard) Also, I'm not all that familiar with ilife and gb, so be sure you get the apps themselves if they're not included in the folders in question.

Travis,

Do I rename the whole iLife folder, or, just the GarageBand folder?

Thanks.

Just rename the gb/ilife program/folder to something else before installing version 9.
I do this kind of thing all the time, and it works like a charm.
