This is just a matter of preference. I have a macbook pro 13 and never
needed a numpad. I have used macs with numpad many times and I don't use the
numpad either because I'm not used to it. But some people like it because it
makes their life easier. What I would do is to purchase the macbook pro, use
it without the numpad (don't freak out, just use it as it is for a month or
two) and if you really need it then buy one.
