Permissions repair complete

run it again, above the line that says complete, look for warnings. if none, no prob. if you find warnings, run the combo update.

Thanks Marie! I ran a repair permissions last night after installing my printer drivers, and there were a lot of lines of error messages, none of which I could understand. At the end, it said that the repair was successful, or did it say complete... can't recall now! Do we need to worry about the content of this file, or are the repairs automatically done?

Thanks

when you run a repair disc in disc utility, the warnings come up there.

Hi Marcy and all,

Can someone please tell me what warnings you are talking about? I saw no warnings after installing my updates, but don't exactly know where to go to find such warnings, and what do the warnings say? :)

Hi, Ignasi and everybody,
I have a brand new, spanking macbook aluminum as of this past March, and I got those warnings yesterday. So, I installed the combo update and they are gone. My mac seemed to work fine after the first install of the original update, but if they say to do the combo if you get those warnings, then I do the combo update! Marcy

Hello,
I maintain five Macs at home, and never got any of those errors. It is true that the earliest version of Leopard that these computers came with was 10.5.6, so they have been updated only twice. Maybe for older installs that have been through all 8 updates, these errors start appearing. From my experience, using software update should be enough. The only case where I would use the combo would be if I'm updating from 10.5.5 to 10.5.8 for example, meaning from a version of the OS that's not the one that immediately precedes the version I am updating to.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for that. How can I tell in the future whether or not I need to run the combo update or the permissions repair?

Thanks,

Russell

Russell,

Your first update would have ran the combo update, so, you are fine.

Is this permission repair something we need to run after every update? And, how do we run it? If it finds errors, do we then go and get that combo file or whatever you guys were talking about and run it?

Thanks for help with this. I was quite proud to have run my first major update this morning, actually there were 13 items being updated, and I thought it all went without a hitch, but now I'm not so sure Help??

you have to run permission repair to see if you get the suid file warnings or not.

Hi Dan, what is this warning, and when do you get it, if you're going to get it? I ran the update yesterday, and my system re-started twice, but I got no warning about an suid file, and I wonder if they'll fix this with snow leopard?

Hello Keith,I have been in the habbbit of running the Combo updates for the last several Leopard updates. Just my way of doing things. Then I always repair permissions after the latest OS is running.

Hi folks,

David did not find any "Warning, SUID" warnings when he downloaded the new update and repaired permissions, however, I did. I ran the combo update and now all is well.
