Cheryl,
It’s a 2012 MacBook Pro w/ 4GB of RAM & a 500GB HD. But, I’ve found an article
that lists 3 changes that you can make to the visual effects in Sierra that are
particularly taxing on the system. I’ve made those changes & it seems to be
helping. They’re changes that don’t effect a blind user, so yeah! Apparently,
they can be made in Yosemite & El Capitan, as well. The link is

Hmm, I don't remember the specs of your system but mine is better on sierra
than it was on El Capitan. Of course each machine and the things loaded on it
has differences but I am wondering what is doing this to you. It is certainly
an option to go back but hopefully you will eventually find out what the
problem is.

Cheryl,
Well, as I remember, it went something like this. Upgraded to Sierra, saw
both Alex & Alex Compact, thought I’ll never use that, & deleted it. Then,
realized that the regular voices seem very choppy & draggy to me. So, I’m
using another of the compact voices listed in VO Utility, but can’t quite
get used to it. Honestly, my machine is so sluggish under Sierra that I’m
considering going back to a backup of El Capitan.

Actually I no longer see a "customize" section; all the voices are just
listed. How exactly did you delete him?

Hi All,
Subject line says it all. Shortly after upgrading, I inadvertently
deleted the Alex Compact voice. It no-longer even appears in the
customize options. If any one could direct me in the arcane alchemy
incantations to recover, download, or otherwise regain this voice option,
I’d appreciate it greatly. I’m using the compact options, because the
full versions are choppy for me in Sierra.
Thanks,
CJ
