actually, I reassigned the keyboard to the alt key, so I'm pressing alt-8. 
still doesn't work, though.

  Try turing VO off, and then switching to your vm, as I think for some reason, 
the capslock is one of those that is still intersepted by MacOS.   NOt sure  if 
turning off VO will allow you to use it in Fusion in your VM, or not, but it's 
worth a try.
