Hey Patrick & all!! I think we've got it!! I interacted with the vertical scroll bar again, then scrolled down to the bottom, and tried a double mouse click, with the actual physical mouse. The first couple of times it didn't work, but I kept scrolling up and then clicking, and, much to my surprise, the continue button became available.

I think it's installed, but I'm not sure. I'm in a window that has a "Quit" button, and then three unlabeled buttons. I'm going to try to click one of the unlabeled buttons to see what happens. I don't wish to click the quit button in case it exits the install. I wish the Mac would better indicate when an install was complete! Cross your fingers! <grin>

Hi Patrick,

Yes, there is a "Vertical Scroll" area, and I tried interacting with it and scrolling down to the bottom, but still no go. The continue button remains dimmed. There is no text being read in the scroll area, but I wonder if there's some sort of "agree" check box that VO isn't reading? May have to wait for sighted help on this one!

Thanks for your help!

Hello Russell and all:

I have a sinking suspicion you are still in the install window and you might be in the portion of the installation that has to do with the license agreement. If you can find a scroll area in that window where the dimmed continue button is, interact with that scroll window and use vo keys + down arrow.

Keep that up for a while until you either hit the bottom of that scroll area or until you get tired (smile). I do not know if that scroll area bottoms out though I do know if you scroll down far enough you simulate reading the license agreement.

Stop interacting with that scroll area and then see if that continue button becomes active.

A Jaws cursor is not necessary. Believe it or not you see all the things you need to see and that are there (grin).

Oh, close that other window for the time being. I do not believe it is doing us any good at the moment.

Hopefully this information proves useful to you. Let us know.

Hi Patrick,

Yes, thought I'd kill two birds with one stone, so to speak! <grin>

That's what I'm thinking... that I'm still in the install window.. maybe it's wanting my serial number? I never was asked for that during what i thought was the install. I can't find anywhere to enter a serial number though. <annoyed look>

Is there a way to turn on the equivalent of a "Jaws" cursor to investigate the window further? I realize that I might, indeed, get some cursers for mentioning the "J" word. <grin>

Hmm, broccoli cookies? Do you mean that broccoli from David's flower bed? Hmm, let me think about that one for a while (smile).

OK, I have a question for you. When you are seeing the dimmed continue button are you in the installer or does it say read iris. I have a sinking suspicion you are still attempting the install though I will wait for your reply.

And yes, these are the building blocks for establishing your ruler of the world credentials (smile).

Hey Patrick and all,

Do you like broccoli cookies, Patrick? <grin>

I'm using a Canon LiDE 25. You said you were using Read Iris on it's own? What version of Read Iris are you using? I'm using version 11.6 ESD, butI'm not sure it installed properly... I don't get any menu items other than an option to quit, to show or hide Read Iris, an "about installer", and that's it. No settings or anything.

In the Read Iris window, when it first opens, all I get is a go back button, which is dimmed, and a continue button. When I click the continue button, I can choose the language, save, print, go back, and then there's a continue button that's dimmed. Do you know what the "ESD" means in the version number?

Any ideas?

Yeah, and I still do not know what to do. This ordeal may not even be solvable with cookies (wink). Though one could try Russell eh? hint hint hint (grin).

By the way russell, what scanner are you working with?

I would share some with you though there is that little issue of Barcelona from the other list (grin).

Be well dude and keep up the fantastic work.

Oh, and Marcy's cookies are a great idea (grin). Especially since I am one of the recipients (grin).

Hey David! CTRL + F8 worked like a charm! Not only did I find out the time, but also the day, which, for the last 4 days, have sort of all run into one! <smile>

I also see my wireless network strength, i.e. 4 of 4 bars! Excellent!

Again, thanks,

hi russ,

The work aroud for the time is to go to the status menu at the top right of the screen with either vo-m-m or controll- f8 and there you will find all the time you need <grin>

Hi everyone,

Every day I am finding more reasons to love my Mac!

Last night I found out that you can set the clock to announce the time at given intervals. I set mine to announce the time every 15 minutes, and I was able to watch the hours tick away as I tried to set up my scanner! <grin>

Then, this morning as I was reading the VO getting started PDF file, I found out that as I'm reading the document, if I press the CTRL key to stop reading, and go and get another cup of coffee, when I come back, all I need to do is press the CTRL key again, and VO starts reading right where it left off, within a word or two! Absolutely amazing! And VO is reading this PDF a lot better than Jaws did in Acrobat!

One thing I haven't come across yet, is there a keystroke to have the time announced?

Thanks all,

Russell
