Hello,

If you have a newer MacBook with multi-touch touch pad and touch-pad commander 
turned on, double-tap at the top of the screen to highlight the menus, then 
move your finger toward the right side of the touch-pad to find and here the 
battery status. As I like the iOS touch interface, I do most things through the 
touch-pad when possible.
