There is work being done on an accessible version of OpenOffice there is no Mac version of WordPerfect any longer.

The fundamental issue here is that Microsoft Office is so common that many schools, government agencies and businesses require its use. having it be accessible on the Mac, with the Mac's low cost compared to a PC with a screen reader such as JAWS or WindowEyes would give a blind or print disabled student or employee a real advantage.

Think of two potential blind employees one is a PC user and one is a Mac user. The Mac user requires only a Mac Mini and Microsoft Office total cost, less than $1000. The PC user requires a PC, Office and a $1000 screen reader. Who will you hire? But if Office for the Mac is not accessible then the Mac user is at a disadvantage.

What about OPen Office? I heard somewhere that they are working on
accessibility for Open Office. Or, if there is WordPerfect for the
Mac, what's wrong with it? Apple is making good strides, yes, but both
companies don't seem to care about a small community like the
blindness community. Maybe onlione petitioning really works. Why don't
we start one? I mean it. In it, we'll bash MicroCrap and talk about
how many scripts we need because noone makes an effort.

What no one gets is that who ever makes a accessible package will get

I think Apple's best course of action will be to spend more time
working with the writers of neo-office and less time with
Microsoft. At least if all of neo-office gets accessible users of
it will have a data base development package included which is more
than Microsoft ever made available to the Apple user community
whether or not those users had accessibility requirements.
