For Finder, try command-delete and that should send it to the trash folder.

I have   duplicated  a file in finder.  I want to delete the copy but when I
use the del key, it does not delete.  I’ve tried selecting that file and then
deleting but that does not work either.  What am I overlooking?  Thanks.

Phil.
