Can anyone explain to a total newbie what a smart mailbox is and how it's supposed to work and why mine doesn't work the way it's supposed to? I have a mailbox, a smart one that, so it's intended, will pick up and display all macrelated content provided i have put it in a generic folder, however when i look into this smart mailbox, everything is displayed there and not only the macrelated stuff. What obvious thing have i missed?

Hi. Just to add to this, one thing I like to do is create different folders for my mailboxes. For example, I have an archives folder. In there I have mail boxes that contain messages I want to hang on to. In there, I have a humor mailbox, a mac related mailbox for messages I want to hold on to, a mailbox for the registration keys I get when buying software, etc. You can even have folders within folders. Under my archives folder, I have a receipts folder. This contains a bunch of mailboxes for different categories of things I've bought online. This all probably sounds a bit much, but since these aren't mail boxes I need to get at all that often, I don't have to arrow through a lot of things on the mailboxes list. If you want to create a folder, just creat a mailbox the way you normally would. You could call it archives or saved messages or something. Then create another mailbox. In the dialog that comes up, find the pop-up button, and select your first mailbox. At that point, the first mailbox becomes a folder, and the second mailbox is within that folder. Finally, if you have mailboxes that you've already created and want to move them in to a folder, this can be done with drag and drop. But as with anytime you use VO drag and drop, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.
Hopefully this all made sense.

Good morning folks,

With so much great information coming accrost the list at this time, this mite be a good time for new users to creat a new mailbox for information that you find helpful.

This is the thing that works for me.

I have lots of mail boxes, with names like: Learning the MAC. So when I receive a message that will help to learn more about the MAC, I move that message to the Learning the MAC
mailbox so that I can find that learning message when I need it.

Your mail box can be named any thing you like, like funny stuff, or, family and the list is endless.

One of the nice things about the MAC and voiceover, is that it gives you more than one way to do things, like creating a new mail box.

Try this just for fun.

Go in to menus with control-option-m or control-f2 and right arrow to "mailboxes". Down arrow to new mailbox hit enter and type in the name you want your mail box to be called. If there is text in that field, it will be erased after the first keystroke or two. It works for me.

Moving a Message

When you receive a message that you want to move to one of your new mail boxes, you do not need to be in the body of the message in order to move the message, you can just have the Voiceover cursor on the row of the message that you want to move.

Now do the following.

Go to menus, with control-option-m, or, control-f2 and right arrow to messages. Then, down arrow to "move" and press "control-option- spacebar". Then arrow down to the mail box that you want to move your message to and then press enter.

You can also find your mail box by pressing the first few letters of the name of the mail box.

Have fun with this.
