[macvoiceover] Braille Edge 40 paired with Ipad 3: shifted characters?

Hey listers! I'm having the time of my life with my Ipad 3 and Braille Edge
40--just paired them this morning. So, my question is, how do I make a shifted
character if I can't use dot six in a cell by itself as a capital indicator?
The on-screen keyboard seems to go away when the Edge is paired; can I change
that somewhere?
