I don't, the stereo jack is simply a splitter, the headphones have an on/off
switch built-in, plus volume and signal tuning.

Interesting, how do you switch the signal?

To add to my arrangement then, the headphone port has a stereo jack that
splits the signal into two female ports, one of these goes to my Sennheiser
wireless headphones, the other to my stereo hi-fi amplifier, which gives me
audio into the room when I want that instead of the headphones.

Sounds like a great option, especially as you don’t need the microphone and
don’t need to keep your headphone port free for something else. A slightly
fuzzy signal from interference would be preferable to how Blue Tooth cuts
out.

This sounds like more of what I may be looking for. I didn't know this was
an option. I needed to be able to move freely around the office but not be
connected. I definitely need something reliable. And preferably not as
noticeable but hey I guess I can't ask for too much.

That is what I do with my iMac but not bluetooth, I use a Sennheiser
wireless pair of headphones, no microphone. This uses radio frequency
which has a much longer range than bluetooth which is limited.
I combine the RF headphones with an Apple bluetooth keyboard and I can be
on the iMac from anywhere in my house, including the level below, so long
as the keyboard is still within the bluetooth range.
If bluetooth goes out of range it stops completely whereas RF does not
stop, it begins to weaken or get some interference.
Similar cost for a decent pair. The Wireless RF has a powered base that
plugs into the audio out port, the headphones port.

Do they make bluetooth ear buds for the computer? I’m asking because I
need a way to hear the computer without interrupting everyone else but
still be free to move around and not be wired to the computer.

Factoring in that I’m avoiding paying for a new wired headset, I’d say
$100 would be ok, maybe up to $120?
My current headset, which now that I hear the pairning info in my
iPhone is a M165, not a 155, is the single ear earpiece type, with a 2
inch body with an earbud protrusion at one end and a loop for over the
ear. In addition to making me feel like a secret service agent, it also
lets in ambient conversations so I can be interrupted while I’m
working. When I use my stock iPhone wired headset, I almost always only
put one earbud in.
I think what I’m looking for is a better version of my M165, same form
factor but addressing its defficiencies. Music playback and Siri
control from the headset so I don’t have to dig the phone out of my
pocket, ability to record voice memos from the headset would be great,
something in the way Voiceover and the M165 interact keeps this from
happening…reminds me of the way back days of single channel sound cards
meaning you could play music and have JFW speaking at the same
time.Although, now that I think about it it doesn’t play nice with
audio recording functions on my Mac either. But I digress, Doesn’t have
to be Plantronics, that just happens to be what they had at the store
when I got my current one a couple of years ago.
Thanks for any wisdom you can offer.

Hi,
What price range are you looking in? and do you prefer in ear or, on
ear headphones?

My wired iPhone headset is starting to give me indications of
imminent failure, thinking I could use the opportunity to get a Blue
Tooth headset. I currently have a Plantronics M155, but it doesn’t
have controls for Siri and music/podcasts. It also survived a trip
through the washer and is still working with only a small drop in
sound quality, so it doesn’t owe me anything.
So, any recommendations on a Blue Tooth headset that integrates Siri
and music/podcast controls? I’m looking for the kind that hangs out
in one ear, leaving the other ear free to pretend I’m listening to my
kids talk.
Looks like the one in the Plantronics line-up is the M70, anyone have
experience with that one?
