I didn't have to do any of that.  I just sent an email to join the list and 
when the confirmation email came I pressed enter on the link that was in the 
email and now I'm on the list.

  That's fine but what about the nasty captcha for google groups?  Those audio 
captchas are worthless in my estimation.
