If you go to listen to the podcast instead of downloading, you'll possibly get some safari ready/busy signals while it loads. Then you'll hav a window showing the time elapsed, total time or time remaining (don't remember!) and three unlabelled buttons. The first appears to take you back, second mute, third play/pause.
