     You don't necessarily have to use an HP scanner, but from what the 
technical support people told me, the scanner must have TWAIN compatible 
drivers installed.  I'd assume that if you install all of the drivers that come 
on your CD, you will have them.  I do not know if relying simply on Mac OS X to 
get the drivers will do it.  I had to actually get my HP drivers from the  HP 
website, or, should I say, I needed sighted assistance to locate them as the HP 
support site is an adventure at best to navigate with either Mac or Windows.  
Keep in mind, however, that my scanner is some 5 years old and that is probably 
why the TWAIN drivers were not readily available in Snow Leopard.
