I tried this terminal commands myself with a 2017 MBP after I found out in
disapointment that I didn't have this world known startup chime on my very
first mac. Sadly it didn't work for me. However I have to say that I didn't
give it enough try. I had to learn everything on my own and just had a quick
go. After that I was always sort of sad but moved on - that is until the
wellknown keyboard issues of the 2016 and 2017 models appeared on my MBP. I
gave my new 2017 MBP back and got myself one of 2015. It's a much quieter
machine anyway and I actually am glad I got rid of the touchbar. And guess
what, I have the mac chime now. It's not only nice but also very helpful.
I'm surprised this change got to imacs as well. And I hope there is a way to
reenable it for everyone at least.

I agree the chime was helpful and Apple likely did not take us Blindees into
their consideration or consent.
I rarely reboot or shutdown, I don't think I have shutdown since I got it a
year ago.
I have extended the period before going to sleep as I was continually getting
an annoying login request which had no associated window.

This is happening with all new Macs. While frustrating, it isn’t the end of
the world for me. Windows computers don’t do this, and I’m just used to it
now.

Hi folks,
We installed a brand new iMac in the shop to day one of the last built
before the new operating system. With every other mac I have ever set down
to when you press the start button you hear a chime of sorts to let you
know that the start up process has begun. But no start up chime with the
new iMac.
After calling tech support and accessibility neither one knew why they had
made the change but they did confirm that it was happening on the new iMacs.
We did register a complaint.
Any thoughts?
