Have you tried fiddling with the terminal window settings?

goes where the cursor will not go, such as the mode line in emacs. The
voiceover cursor also tends to go back to the very beginning when I
first opened terminal and then I am always having to move the voiceover
cursor to keyboard focus and its a real pain. Also, if I have the
voiceover cursor on the emacs mode line, I can read a word at a time,
but it does not give me all the punctuation, whereas if I read the whole
line, I see all the punctuation. I guess those are the main problems.
