   I don't know why he would have told you that.  If you read all the technical 
info out there, they all indicates that running a disk permissions check and 
repair is very much important after a major application install or an OS 
update.  This has been the case as far back as my Tiger days.  It even states 
this in the documentation I read preparing for my ACSP exam.
