This is a terrific post! It's obvious how much time and research you put in to
gather all of this info.

thank you!

If you want to get an idea of what it is like to have lion voices or at least
some of them on your ios device, alex speaks for ann free app called chime
which can be found here:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/chime/id414830146?mt=8
Here's one that was just released on march 10 and is free. I'm going to get
this one too as I have the others and more:
chimeo'clock
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/chimeoclock/id497262531?mt=8
Voice brief
You'll have to pay for this but it is well worth it as is the next app in the
list. They both feature high quality large download voices which essentially
blows the alex download theory out of the water. It could be done as these and
some other apps demonstrate.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/voice-brief-text-to-speech/id423322440?mt=8
My favorite self voicing news app is Vocalyze
which self voices content. When you have this app, drop them a note and let
them know where you heard about it.
They also produce a similar free app:
voknow
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/voknow/id414021672?mt=8
read2go
is a must have self voicing daisy reading app if you use bookshare and it reads
other daisy books as well.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/read2go/id425585903?mt=8

My last example is InDaisy
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/indaisy/id377597460?mt=8
This is a well crafted app which self voices daisy text and allows for
listening of audio daisy books.

I'm sure you'll find more apps with built-in voices and maybe we should start a
compendium but when I saw the question, It put me in mind of all these apps
I've seen and have.

Enjoy. I provide no endorsement, just info.

Fair enough. I think it comes down to the individual user at the end of the
day.
I think it would be cool if there was a download feature where one can download
the voices they want to use. You know like what happened in Lion. That way the
user can decide yeah I want to fill up 500MB of my IOS device for one voice or
just use the ones that come by default on it.
Just my opinion. What do others think? Are you really not that boverd or do you
like the idea?
I'd be interested to know.

Thanks
