To be very clear... If by "status bar" you mean the line of items along the top of the screen that display time, blue tooth status, etc., the point that shows the number of bars for the Wi-Fi does not display the name of my network. It only tells me how strong my connection to it is. It is always two out of three or three out of three. The name of my network appears when I open settings, right below airplane mode (which is off BTW) there is a Wi-Fi icon displaying my network name. Everything looks right everywhere except that the PC library never appear in the iPod section of settings. I've had relatively few problems connecting any number of laptops and netbooks to my home network before. The inability to connect to my home network, find and pair my BT stereo headset and BrailleConnect24 remain as problems with the otherwise perfect use of my new iPhone. On the other hand, I've already spent over fifty dollars on music in the iTune store. This makes spending my time troubleshooting worth it... It keeps me busy and out of the store! -----Original Message----- From: mac4theblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mac4theblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of David Hilbert Poehlman Sent: Wednesday, September 07, 2011 11:59 PM To: mac4theblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mac4theblind] Re: Hoping someone can help me with a home sharing question hmm, that's not good. when you see wifi in the status bar, does it give your network name? I also want to add that checking for wifi status in the status bar is a key indicator, as there are times when in settings, the wifi button will show your network but wifi is not indicated in the status bar, meaning that there isn't a wifi connection. In this case, go into setting/wifi and turn wifi off and then on again. This may necissitate choosing your network again, or wifi may just reconnect without your having to choose your network. My "require password" option in the sharing tab of preferences was NOT checked. I checked it to see if it will make a difference. I then go to my settings/iPod section. I see the music heading but not the home sharing section you mentioned. I then go to the settings/network session. Wi-Fi is on and The correct network name is shown selected on the list. Suspicious info1: Next to the network name it states "activate to join the network". I guess this means that it sees the network but is not connected. When I double tap on the more button it takes me to a section with several areas to input IP addresses. These are currently set to whatever their default is since I never entered anything there. I recognize the router IP as correct. Where do the other values come from? Are they just standard settings or do they have to match settings elsewhere on my system? The results from running Ipconfig on my computer? Is been so long since I have had to do more than plug in an Ethernet cable that I am unsure about what to do with what I see. Suspicious info2: the field "Client ID" is empty. Should anything go there? And if so... What??? If you have home sharing turn on with your computer, make sure it is as well on your iPhone. To do this, in settings, double tap on iPod and flick to the Home Sharing area. Make certain your Apple ID and password are present in the appropriate fields. When it is, start the iPod app and double tap on the, More, button. Then flick to the Sharing button and double tap that. Your library name should show up. Once you double tap that, it will take a good ten seconds, but you then should see your library on your computer. Take Care John D.
