Well, anyone who has been using the Mac for a good amount of time knows you
have to go to system preferences 1st, then to dock and menu items where this
option is located.

Any work arounds, or has anyone else tried this?
Now you do not say you went to system preffs. You went to the doc and did
this.
Maybe you should read my message what do you think?

· How to Insert Time Into a Cell in OpenOffice
<https://smallbusiness.chron.com/insert-time-cell-openoffice-47858.html>
Your Mac <https://www.apple.com/mac/> has the ability to speak the time
every 15, 30 or 60 minutes using a built-in speech synthesizer. If you have
difficulty seeing the system clock or forget to check the time while
working, enabling this feature can help you stay on task and avoid
forgetting about your commitments. Open the "Date & Time" section on the
System Preferences menu to get your Mac <https://www.apple.com/mac/> to say
the time.
1
Click the System Preferences icon on the Dock or the Apple
<https://www.apple.com/> icon in the upper right corner of the screen and
select "System Preferences" on the pull-down menu. The System Preferences
window appears.
2
Click the Date & Time icon under the System heading at the bottom of the
window.
3
Click the "Clock" button at the top of the window.
4
Click to place a check in the box next to "Announce the time" at the bottom
of the window.
5
Click the drop-down menu next to "Announce the time," and select "On the
hour," "On the half hour" or "On the quarter hour."
6
Click the "Customize Voice" button to change the parameters of the voice
synthesizer used to announce the time.
7
Click the drop-down menu next to "Voice" and select the voice that you want
the computer <https://www.walmart.com/cp/computers/3951> to use when
speaking the time, such as "Bruce," "Fred" or "Kathy." Click the "Play"
button in the lower left corner of the screen after making a change to hear
a sample sound clip of the voice you've selected.
8
Click the "Use Custom Rate" and "Use Custom Volume" check boxes to adjust
the speed or volume of the voice. After clicking one of the boxes, adjust
the slider below to change the value.
9
Click "OK" and then close the Date & Time window to have your Mac
<https://www.apple.com/mac/> begin speaking the time at the interval you
selected.
