Indeed, it's not a surprise that CPython is much slower, but I thought
Numpy would perform better than this, especially considering that it
is growing in the scientific comunity and that it isn't still fully
functional on PyPy. But that's completely off-topic on this list...

Still, glad to know that we have a cool Lua alternative for math stuff. =)
