Just right click on one of your input's or outputs and click "Add input"...
then select stream, then add the line.

stream in Masterplay?  Alternatively, can you just copy the entry in the
playlist as an example of one these (note: you can obscure the actual URL
listing).

  It may be my early experiences and the networks have invested in bigger
pipes. I 100% agree with the monitoring function in Masterplay. And have
thought about putting the Black Magic “Clean Switch” in front of the igolgi
to act as a “Frame Sync” so an interruption in the stream going to the
igolgi does not cause it issues. And it may be that issue has been fixed in
the newer igolgi.

I tend to disagree with Rick, I've had zero issues with the network feeds
being received by Masterplay.  I've got 1 feed being received via SRT and 3
being received via an m3u8 playlist stream.  In the settings of Masterplay
when you setup the stream,  You can tell it to automatically restart if you
lose a connection, and you can change the command line argument to increase
buffering if needed.  I think the key is to make sure you have a good
internet connection at your end, with a business class router / switch /
network / IT setup.



However, on the flipside... we actually use D2D boxes as well and send our
ASI output of our encoder from one of our stations via over Internet thru a
D2D box to our other station which has a D2D box on receive end then to
transmitter.  Have zero issues with it as well.  Great boxes.

Yes, I love the D2Flex3000.  Every time I find a bug in it, I report it to
Steve, and he fixes it.  Now, the D2Flex3000s are really reliable for
sending video over the internet, and they are not expensive.  You can buy
cheap Sencore 3187Bs off of Ebay to take an ASI feed and get an SDI
output.  You do have to encode to ASI on the sending end.  I have  GeoSat
Pro to encode one of my feeds to ASI.  For one of my links I encode 2.5
Mbps MPEG4 over ASI and then decode it.



Yes, I do have an issue that pops up with one of my iGolgi encoders that
takes in an ASI input.  If the ASI input goes away, then that input channel
can trip off.  It is best to feed the iGolgi SDI video or video over
ethernet.  The nice thing about using a Sencore 3187A/B to feed into the
iGolgi is that if the network feed drops, the Sencore always maintains SDI
video to the iGolgi encoder.



So, what I think I'm hearing from you is to use some sort of buffering
device to receive an internet stream and switch that into Masterplay
instead of using Masterplay directly to receive a stream.  That makes
sense.  Perhaps taking in an internet feed directly works 95% of the time,
but that 5% of the time that it doesn't work can mess up things!

  The issue is the software changes so often, it is hard to make an
up-to-date manual.



   As for IP streams, you set each stream up as a separate “input” and
“switch” between them. But a word of caution. Yes, Masterplay will decode
streams. But it is only as good as the streams coming in. The internet is
not an “ideal” beast and there is no direct link between point “A” and
point “B”. So networks through the internet are going to have issues. You
can use SRT which buffers the stream so if something drops out it can try
to replace what dropped out. But that only does so much. And some encoder
like the Igolgi can lock up when a feed is interrupted even if the feed
continues. So be prepared for headaches from internet IP feeds. There is a
reason the big networks use satellite or playout the programming locally.
The internet was not designed with a 24/7 feed in mind. Even IP networks
like Disney+ buffer in the local box to work around the issues. And Disney
has big servers and “pipes” on their end but they cannot control between
point “A” and “B”. Just a word of caution before you start cursing the
Masterplay when it is not it’s fault.

  So the point is yes, Masterplay can decode the IP streams. But if the
network has an external box with buffering built in and can hand you an SDI
video feed, that may be a more reliable solution. And you can put a monitor
inbetween the two boxes to isolate issues. And sometimes that external box
is as much as a Masterplay.

   Maybe an SRT box like the D2D that the network goes into, buffers, then
out of that into the Masterplay. IP & Cat5 will soon replace SDI and video
cables. But video through the internet requires buffering.

Funny thing about masterplay is that no manual is provided for users. I’ve
been told that one exists but it’s so bad or old that it is obsolete.

Hi list, we are Masterplay newbies and would like to receive streaming
inputs from three network feeds that we switch to hour-by-hour as well as
at times run local shows from files.



While we would love to be able to a) turn these streams on/off as needed,
we could live with b) having them on full-time.  Would someone please
suggest us how to do either one?



Am I missing a manual that tells how to do this?
