The last couple of days I've been playing around with OBS streaming /
production software. While this free software is typically used for streaming
or podcasts, the latest version has the capability to run playlists of video
files (as long as VLC player is installed).
This makes creating a simple looping video channel quite easy. And the
software supports video cards like Black Magic Design, as well as typical RTMP
streaming protocol.
In addition, you can create different "scenes" which can have playlists
attached. So far I've figured out that you can use that trusty old Swiss Army
knife program xStarter to play out different scenes (and, hence, playlists)
based on a programmed schedule.
While this is a cumbersome workaround, it would be possible to schedule certain
shows or content (playlists) at given times. So maybe this could be used as a
way to do a simple looping channel, such as music video channel, but still be
able to schedule in a few shows on schedule (for example, to satisfy E/I
requirements on a sub-channel.)
OBS can also overlay graphics over your video, such as a channel bug. And I'm
guessing there's much, much more that OBS can do...
Please feel free to comment if you have any ideas, suggestions and info to
share.
