Keith,
I'm unfortunately still using an analog video server. It does have component
video out and I run that into the PiP processor that way. The video crawl
comes in through HDMI. Even though the video server does not play out 16x9,
I'm encoding the output as such. For local shows, I have been shooting in HD
for a couple of years. I encode those as anamorphic 16x9 - that way those
shows are in the proper aspect ratio. It does mean that the classic movies and
older content get stretched a bit, but usually doesn't look that bad. Of
course, it's really not HD, but I'm only streaming on the internet now.

Hi Rick,
Why would anyone want to still use analog video? It adds noise and such.
When I bought KQSL, our incoming feed was analog. I upscaled it to 1080i and
notified DirecTV and Dish that KQSL was now an HD station. It looked okay
but was definitely not HD quality. As long as the end video was HD, then the
MVPDs considered it HD. They didn't care that it was upscaled analog. There
was some hum in the picture, so I added a humbucker. Whenever there was a
completely solid color across the screen, there a strange mosaic in the
picture. Since, then I've thrown away all of the analog stuff. When you're
doing stat mulitplexing, having analog video upstream wastes bits. There
isn't much reason to be using analog video at all anymore since HD equipment
sells for so cheap on eBay.
Blessings,
Keith

Is there an analog video version that will work?

So when I recently relocated my channel equipment to my home office the
computer creating the "L-bar" weather and information graphics stopped
working. I had to come up with a quick solution to keep the local
announcements and weather forecasts going.
So I used an Android TV box with a free digital signage app to create a
crawl at the bottom of the screen. I'm using an Extron DVS 605 processor to
put the video over the crawl using the picture-in-picture (PiP) function.
While the RSS XML file needed for the crawl can be created manually with any
text editor, I modified my CMS (Content Management System) to automate the
process.
So far the crawl looks good and there have been no problems - hopefully this
will be a good working solution! Here's what it looks like:
