Just a reminder that the year's first count is this coming Saturday at Indian
Bayou. We will meet at the rest area bathrooms under I-10 at the Butte La Rose
exit (#121) at 9:30. Possible species include Hayhurst Scallopwings, Duke's
Skippers, Delaware Skippers and Tawny Emperors. In the past we have had
rarities such as Appalachian Browns, Harvesters, Summer Azures and Texas
Crescents.
It hasn't rained much here in Acadiana, but I would still suggest boots as a
snake precaution. It will be hot so bring water/drinks. I will bring my
off-road bicycle to cover more ground. If you have one and want bring it, feel
free to do so. We typically divide into groups in order to maximize areas
covered and I will match any new participants with one of the experienced group
leaders.
I don't anticipate going all day. The butterflies this spring have been few and
far between. As I said, it has been really hot and I expect the same this
weekend. We will have lunch around noon in the location where we always stop
(the hunting weigh station off of the levee road). Unless things are really
hopping, we should be finished by 3:00.
Let me know who is planning to attend so I know who o be on the look for. My
cell is 33-7-654-4848 if anyone has questions or needs directions.
