Jeff,
Thanks for your prompt reply. Tentatively, Jeff and I are looking at the end
of March/early April to continue our quest to refind Cobweb Skippers in LA.
There are two pitcher plant bogs in Vernon near Allen Acres we want to check,
plus Kieffer Prairie near Winnfield.
There is a butterfly listserv for the State, louisianaleps@xxxxxxxxxxxxx.
If you are not already on it, get enrolled so you can see when any upcoming
counts are to occur and then let us know if you want to join us so we will know
to be on the look-out for you. It would be wonderful to have someone with your
plant knowledge involved so we can better id nectar and larval food plants.
I'm looking forward to seeing your list for Beauregard. In fact, Jeff
Trahan wondered how much property your nursery entails. If it is spread-out and
has open property in the immediate area, it might be a good spot to come canvas
and see what is there. Thanks again for your help.
Craig

Craig,
I will take a look at the list as promised and get it back to as soon as
possible and provide as much in the way of dates as I can as well. As for the
area with the little bluestem, I have a few areas in mind and will get back to
you on that as well so that you and Jeff can take a look. Would love to join
you if the opportunity arises as well. The work that you and Jeff and doing is
going to be a great addition to knowledge currently available on Louisiana leps
in my humble opinion. It was great to finally meet you as Dr. Allen has always
spoken highly of you.
Thank You & Good Growing,
Jeff McMillian

Subject: Fwd: 03) Checklist
Jeff,
It was nice to meet you today, and I enjoyed your presentation this
morning. I have attached a version of the checklist I am using in my book. I
have placed a red X by those species that have previously been recorded in
Beauregard Parish. As you can see, it is a small list. Your presentation seemed
to suggest you have seen many more than those few for which I have records. If
you can provide dates for your sightings (such as the Zebra Longwing and Large
Orange Suls), such dates would be relevant to my presentation. It is not so
important for the more common ones like Sleepy Oranges, Goatweed Leafwings,
etc, but whatever dates you have will be helpful. Again, i will give you credit
for your data that i use.
If you have records for other parishes, I would like to see those as well.
Vernon has been well reported, but Allen not so much.
Also, if you can think of areas in your neck of thhe woods with healthy,
log-standing stands/growths of Little Bluestem, Jeff Trahan and I would be
interested in searching those areas for possible colonies of Cobweb Skippers.
Again, i appreciate any help you can give.
