Just wondered if you would include 'Hi' in your list of vocative wotsits - Many years ago I knew an elderly lady from Northumberland, a farmers wife, who could maintain long conversations just by murmuring mm-hm with variant inflections at interludes during a conversation, an the occasional "uh-uh hinny!". One came away convinced one had had a long and fruitful exchange with her and yet she never really said anything...I guess these are evocatives not vocatives...
