Marlena: But why don't you send his messages to your junk Deleted Items folder? It is a simple thing to learn to do. His emails would than not fill up your inbox. Isn't it better to learn to use existing technology to manage your inbox than make JL pay for your inability? Tell your email server that he is Spam. That is another way to take care of your problem. And if worse came to worst you could use the old delete key. I am not interested in all the discussions going on at the present time; so delete, delete, delete, delete, delete, delete, delete. It is a rather easy thing to learn to do. It's really hard when one is interested in ideas/words/etc to not want to share them. But, I have to say that I support Andreas in this one. I switched to digest mode because your posts, much as I liked many of them, created too much in terms of filling up my inbox (which is too full anyway--) and though I liked some of the posts, too many are too many. I'd prefer that you'd pick a topic and thoughtfully condense the thoughts from the numerous posts into one. Maybe two, even--four is even hard! But, four is doable in digest mode, I have discovered. I do recognize that problem with the time zones and thanks for shaing that piece. And, I realize how hard it is to do this (I have a very difficult time so I often don't post <g>) but one of the lists I am on has a rule of ONE post a day (only two is allowed with the poster sending it out with a GREAT apology). Most of my professional lists have that same sort of rule. There is simply so much information 'out there' and so many of us are interested in so much--and yet, Lit-Ideas is more than just another list--it is, for me anyway, a thoughtful discussion of ideas and concepts. I often am able to look at a situation or idea in a new way that is very helpful to me. I get ideas for things to read, ways to approach things even in my professional life that has an impact on many more--it's an important list to me and why I have returned back to it after being gone for awhile. I am so sorry that you feel stifled, though. It is a hard place to be--but though I have not to pay for my Internet per the minute, my time is very compressed right now--which is not your fault, obviously, but it is meaning that I need to be very selective with what I look at. And, I know how wordy *I* am--and how very difficult it is to change that. (I subscribe to the belief that our greatest strengths are our greatest weaknesses--so I'm sure that the wordiness is merely a reflection of whatever our Great Strength is on the flip side...<g>) It is hard to make these sorts of decisions--but in this case, I do add my request to that of Andreas. (though perhaps with greater sympathy...) You wrote: "1,0. You win" But my post, seeing that he had to be handled personally with you and your busy _is_ scheduled, never made it. Also, while I appreciate the good will of these people I'm cc-ing with this, it's not strictly fair that my research be secluded to the ps as a quoted post. People doing research on _my_ posts may never come across it if it's just cited in somebody else's post. So, while I'm asking advice to you from these other people I'm cc-ing, I would you reconsider the protocol. An open voting onlist would be one option. How many want the 4 post quota and how many don't want it? I feel that I cannot introduce new topics that I come across because I spend my posts replying as I should on other people's comments on mine. Also, the time zone are not easy for me to decipher, and while I keep track and count of the posts I send, I promise I won't overwhelm the many subscribers to your list that you say I was overwhelming. Let us all hear from them too. By knowing what their arguments are against my overwhelming them or having overwhelmed them I can always learn. Cheers, and thanks for your attention.
