To answer the question that was asked, no I’m afraid that when the current
generation of chickens comes to an end it probably will not be replaced. Sic
transit gallus mondi, or words to that effect. We’ll move on to elephants or
something. Enjoy the chickens while they last.
As for Lawrence’s tolerant attitude towards a cock crowing…I admire that, for I
have no patience with roosters. One of two repetitions, fine; after that, coq
au vin. You’ll remember that for a while Appenzeller was gender-confused. All
hereabouts hope there will be no return to that aural state.
May I take this opportunity to warn you that the C.I.A. are sending me on a
mission. Do not be surprised if the “Hereabouts” falters in the coming weeks.
