Speaking of hiking and backpacking. Who are some of your favorite
authors and poets who speak of such things?
_____

My friend Cindy Ross wrote _A Woman's Journey_ which describes her solo
hike on the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Her book _Journey
on the Crest_ describes her Pacific Crest Trail hike. She has other
books as well, one for kids and one that serves as a general guide to
the AT.

She and her husband Todd live in a non-electrified cabin along the
Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania.

Years ago, she gave a lecture at a local college and during the Q&A
session a man stood and asked:

"Hiking the trail takes several months. What about your [emphasis] JOB?"
"You quit your job," she answered.
"But...but,"the man tried to recover his stability," what do you do when
you come back?"
"You get another job," she answered calmly.
"Oh," he replied, and one could almost see the giant light bulb of
things previously unconsidered glowing in the auditorium.
