[lit-ideas] conflict vs. character in fiction

For most romance readers, it is NOT about the plot or the conflict--it 
is  all about character development.


IMHO, characters develop in conflict. In fact, one could argue that 
character IS how one responds to conflict.

Not that conflict has to involve being chased by guys firing 
machine-pistols. People just want different things: that's conflict 
enough. And often, character enough.
