IT'S OFFICIAL -- LIBRARIANS RULED 'BRAINIEST' IN
UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE The British Library team
scored a decisive victory over the Oxford
University Press team in the BBC2's "University
Challenge -- the Professionals," a contest that
pitted professionals from 22 different areas of
expertise against each other to determine who the
brainiest professionals are. Among the professions
represented were diplomats, journalists, lawyers,
politicians and zoologists. The BL team attributed
their win to "team-work, a thirst for knowledge
and a real hunger to win." BL team captain Bart
Smith, a Humanities reference specialist, said,
"Our victory not only reflects the knowledge and
expertise of British Library staff but is a
tribute to the skills of the library profession,
whose members are true information providers with
an ability to access virtually every subject under
the sun, however seemingly obscure."
