Apparently, he was a good whistler (read Malcom: Witters, A Memoir).
Indeed, Witters is said to have been so good at whistling that this invited
some
scorn from the otherwise pleasant Frank Plumton Ramsey. For Witters was
saying that some things are unsayable -- "or unwhistleable, for that matter",
was Ramsey's tarty retort.
