Dear Herr Doktor Dribble,

While in disguise, Mint often flaunted his "PhD from Cantab." In reality, he grew up in and around The Cantab Lounge (Cambridge, MA), and ran small errands for his father, a known local criminal. After his father was indicted, Mint returned with his sister to Ohio, there to live with the strict uncle (who drove a tan cab) and aunt whose vigorous discipline made him leave home at an early age, his tropical fish bagged in zip-locks. In later life he acquired a forged PhD diploma from Cantabria University and if pressed, would claim that he had been misunderstood.

Any reference to Mint's "Toulmin" alias that fails to take into account the psycho-historical genesis of his personae, his inner personnel, will miss the whole point of the imposture, the man, his character, and his academic achievements.

Yours in hasty puddings, mush, red rope lights, Donizetti, and polenta,

Beecham Sawfoot Beddoes, PI
