The reference, as I pointed out in a later post, under a different header,
alas, was to WATKINS, alas. It is Watkins who seems to be retracting -- I
suppose from his original contribution to the Schilpp volume, which was part
of the target of attack by Mackie (in the BJPS) -- since Mackie's essay
was a review essay, subtitled, in fact, "Popper and his commentators" (within
the "Popper Circle"), apparently notably Watkins -- it concerns issues of
probability and Lande's blade. The retraction by Watkins was published by
Watkins in a different essay, obviously, even after Mackie had passed away.
It is referenced in the Watkins's 'festschrift'. So the reference to "the
Popper Circle" is by Watkins. And it all seems to have to do with this
Lande's blade. I hope this clarifies things.
I mention these references in case McEvoy has come across them and we can
further discuss!
Cheers,
Speranza
