That's a 31-second ride.

The NYC subway used to be like that in the '90s -- particularly the 4 or 5 express trains on the green line. Full-throttled, butt-clenching tunnel rockets. Then there was a big crash at Union Square station. A driver didn't brake soon enough, and the train jumped the tracks, smashed into concrete pillars, and killed a bunch of people.

Now it's computerized, sedate, and safe. A synthetic female voice advises commuters that "your safety matters to us." How boring.
