They say if you treat a cold it will go away in a week. If you don't treat it, it will take seven days. BTW, for what it's worth, too much zinc will depress the immune system, and also is associated with prostate cancer. It seems to accumulate in the prostate gland. Not enough is bad too. I've got a nasty head cold I thought I'd beaten off (rather too fast, though) by eating cranberries; I stayed up too late the night before last and it's come back... I am really muzzy. A.A. Cranberries are known for making bacteria less prone to stick to the urinary bladder wall, thereby decreasing urinary tract infections. I've never heard them connected with the prevention of colds, although their beautiful deep color has to be loaded with any number of desirable plant compounds. Conceivably, whatever it is in cranberries that prevents bacteria from sticking to one set of tissues in the body may also work elsewhere. A big however, though, is that colds are caused by viruses, not bacteria, so I don't see how cranberries can be connected to cold prevention. Just out of curiosity, what is your source for this belief?
