Here's estimates from WHO on how many would die from a flu pandemic.

"Between a quarter and a third of the world's population will fall ill,
according to new
World Health Organization estimates, and one per cent of the sick will die.
Between 16
million and 21 million people would die in a matter of mere months. In Canada,
80,000 to
106,000 people would be expected to succumb. The consequences: Panic. Crippled
health-care
systems. Economic disruption on a global scale. Grounded airlines. Distribution
networks
that will grind to a halt. Social instability. "

Let's see: for the USA (280m people), between 25% to 33% would be come ill (70m
to 92m) and
1% will die (700,000 to 920,000).

Iran is surely behind this. Let's roll.
