The difficulty in staying home

He who is a fool, let him remain a fool,

But he who is brave enough to call

His home his own, let him keep it

If he has the courage. Let him

Withstand the stormy blasts

Of political red tape and the raging

Of foamy-mouthed bearded mullahs

Who every Friday exhort those

Who would see you riven or skewered,

and draped in the barbed wire you

Hope will keep them out. Your dog

Barks and down the valley you hear

Another dog bark out a reply.

What does it mean? Another night

Without their fires, their incandescent

Logic, their arguments caught up

In explosive blasts that rattle your windows

And doors? You take your pistol,

Check its magazine, and peer out

Into the night, like all the other

Nights since you've been home.
