Here's a merry World War II story that illustrates the propaganda value of humor.


In the middle of the war, the Nazis had constructed a fake airfield with plywood planes set up on it. The goal was to distract British bombers from the real Nazi airfields. British Intelligence learned of the deception. The Brits bombed the ersatz Nazi airfield with plywood bombs.

Nothing more demoralizing than having your "clever deception" one-upped!
