Oddly we were discussing the implicatures of

i. p, so they say.

According to Tarski (I'm translating from the Polish), "to say, "Snow is white,
so they say" triggers the conversational implicature about my Polish aunt. When
I use 'they' I always refer to my family."

In Geary's example

ii. Perspective is awesome, so they say.

he prefers the use of what he calls 'scare quotes':

iii. Perspective, whomever invented it, is, so 'they', my family, say, is
'awesome'.

Cheers
