In other words, the West was wrong when it assumed the Muslim world would not have to repeat the Hundred Year's War, the Thirty Year's War, and the birth of the modern state. But who will be the Muslim Cardinal Richelieu? And why does this primitive game have to be played out in the age of nukes, anthrax, and aflatoxin? Can't the Muslim world just skip the theocratic error and move into the postindustrial world? The West has already done it for them. It's not oppression so much as a chance to leapfrog.
