Judy, my problem was with "a lot of you." It still strikes me as incredibly condescending, whereas

"Obama: You *surely* remember the tragedy of 9/11 and where you were on that day and, you know, how all of the country was ready to come together and make enormous changes to make us not only safer, but to make us a better country and a more unified country."

would show more confidence in the audience's intelligence and character. "A lot of" doesn't even imply a majority of the audience, just a significant percentage.

On the other hand, David's hypothetical attack ad for youth is probably much better than the one I offered. It strikes the right combination of ADD, social class resentment, and general doofus mode.

Best,
Eric
