The trial was still ongoing. The idea of "declaring him guilty" on one item and hanging him before concluding the trial is a legal farce.
Normally, it's trial, evidence, summation of arguments, jury deliberation, appeals, sentencing, and execution. But they skipped everything and went straight to the execution. That saved a lot of bother, no? All that tedious talk!
