Ursula,
Mike was very like several close friends I had in the past -- outrageous ideas
and they used to make me laugh even when they were insulting me, much as Mike
did. One fellow, Ken Hackney (also Irish) challenged me to a fight during a
Christmas party. Once we were out there, he laughed and told me he just needed
some fresh air and wanted some company while he was getting it.
My father too . . . I would visit him while he was hooked up to an oxygen unit
which he towed around his tiny backyard. He would say, "if I knew I was going
to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself." He died at age
76.
They were the best company I've ever experienced, but I always had too many
obligations to be like them for long, family, a career in aerospace . . . even
now three years after Susan died there are dogs to take care of, books I feel
obligated to read, poetry I feel obligated to write. . . . walking my post in
a military manner, keeping always on the alert . . . I can hear Mike laughing.

Lawrence, I never thought that there was any personal animosity in your
arguments with Mike. I’m sure he didn’t either.

Those who remember all the arguments I had with Mike might think I won't miss
him, but they were a long time ago, and I will. We never seemed to argue
about poetry.

Those of you not on Facebook won’t know that Mike Geary died. He was on this
list and the one before it. He contributed much fun to my life and I want to
give public thanks for that. Those of you on Facebook will have seen a
lovely video of him dancing with his daughter, totally into it. Way to go,
Geary.
