LOVE IS LIKE A RED, RED LIGHT

I had my love laminated
so it would not fade or tear,
and hid in a drawer
among my underwear.
But damn if I didn't lose it
to a friend without a care,
who thought it was some porno --
like poetry to Adorno
when he became aware
that the sacrosanct
was out-flanked
by barkers at the fair.

"Love is always iffy,"
said the dwarf dressed so spiffy
that no woman realized
his eyes were on her thighs.
"Love is like a limosine,
it sacramentalizes the obscene,"
the preacher said to the newly wed.
"Love is cock and cunt,"
said the randy runt,
and we joined him the hunt. Yes.
"Love is me," said she and I tried to hide her away.
In the drawer of drawers,
but she
was to animated
to be laminated.
Love is
ever
eager.
So meagre
is me.
