THE KARMA OF WORDS
a word -- spark of a switch
turned on for the twenty thousandth time
and the house explodes
that was slowly filled with resentment
or the sudden descent
of the tornadoes
of discontent
roofs ripped,
trees upended
buildings rendered debris
of words
or it might be
the hard rain of uncried tears
the release of bitter years,
and the hillside slides
drowning the town
in mud-thick words
of spite
or like a levee breached
a flood of turbid words
in places never reached
roils the hearts with moil of moods
standing stagnant days on end
until the skin stinks of rage.
