THE PHYSICS OF LOVE

the piezoelectric effect, that's what
I'm talking about
just touch me and I light up.
they don't call me the crystal lattice of love
for nothing.
but love is more than light
love is heat, too,
and so I always keep my pilot lit,
keep the old electrons flowing
from the hotter end
(you know, don't ask)
to the cooler, calculating one
so that when you choose
to turn the knob
all my burners burst into flame,
if you I understand what I mean,
and I'm sure you do, you nasty you.
they don't call me the thermocouple of love
for nothing.

but when you scowl at me,
I swear,
all of physics gets confused.
nothing works,
everything collapses into the cold, dark
loneliness of an abandon furnace.
