Due to the time difference between the US and India, (Mr.Singh, Outsourced
President of the United States) will be working primarily at night, when
few offices of the US Government will be open.
The other day, we were talking about a task at work. It was late in the day
and the work had to be presented to a client in the morning.
So we decided to send the task to one of the staffers in Bangalore. Within a
few hours, it would be morning in India and the team would have a full
workday while it was night in California.
One of the team said "Sameer can work on it all day tonight."
I like that: "all day tonight."
When we started working with the India team, it took a while to get used to
the 12-hr time difference (actually, it's 12.5 hr time difference. India,
for whatever crazy reason, is 30 minutes off the time zones). I eat dinner
while they eat breakfast. We've gotten used to saying "good morning" and the
other person replies "good evening!". For us, we're fresh awake in the
morning, but we have to remember that it's nearly midnight for them so we
have to keep the conf calls short. We use Skype and IM and I talk with them
nearly every night for several hours. While waiting for file transfers, we
also chat. I know the weather and local politics of Bangalore quite well.
